However, often either the PostScript interpreter is incomplete, buggy or simply slow or the printer has not enough memory. Doing the PostScript->PCL conversion on the computer and sending PCL is often the better method. Example: I have a HP Color LaserJet 4550 In "Printer Model" I choose "Color LaserJet 4550" - so far so easy. However, if I look at the PPD files I find the following long list which is far from being easily to understand. HP Color LaserJet 4550 Foomatic/ljet4 (...) HP Color LaserJet 4550 Foomatic/lj5gray (...) HP Color LaserJet 4550 Foomatic/pxlmono (...) HP Color LaserJet 4550 Foomatic/lj4dith (...) HP Color LaserJet 4550 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.0.0 black and white only (...) HP Color LaserJet 4550 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.0.0 simplified black and white only (...)
