Yes, the file contains the line "alias acpi acpi_cpufreq".
I've alredy seen situation where acpi_cpufreq needed to be loaded twice. For the first time it was failing. Isn't this the case? Don't you see errors on bootup?
There are no errors on bootup and nothing related to acpi_cpufreq is mentioned in dmesg and boot.msg. What can I do to debug this problem further?
I don't know, it doesn't look like a kernel problem. init seems not to load the module for some reason. Michal, do you have any ideas why this could happen? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Can you check with 'chkconfig haldaemon' whether it is enabled? If so, please add 'set -x' right after the 'start)' line in the script, to see what is happening when the script is run during boot. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I removed it from the post-install package selection because it is stated in the "Product Highlights" that "hal is not used in the base system and the GNOME desktop anymore." (see http://en.opensuse.org/Product_highlights#Base_System) If HAL is required for starting the cpufreq daemon, this statement is obviously a bit premature. I will install HAL and report if the problem persists. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
