Summary: After recent security update of Firefox, it complains that Flash is outdated. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Update Problems AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: carlos.e.r@opensuse.org QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: ---
System is 11.0, security updates current. I just run YOU which updated Firefox to 3.0.14. On restarting firefox, I see:
*** You should update Adobe Flash Player [1] right now. ***
Firefox is up to date, but your current version of Flash Player can cause security and stability issues. Please install the free update [1] as soon as possible.
[1] http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
which of course, I will not do, expecting you supply the appropriate rpm update via the usual channel (ie, YOU).
I have flash-player-9.0.246.0-0.1
Unless Firefox is fooled by the flashblock add-on :-?
File name: npwrapper.libflashplayer.so Shockwave Flash 9.0 r246

--- Comment #1 from Dirk Mueller dmueller@novell.com 2009-09-27 21:32:00 CEST --- according to http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html#fp9
this is the most current flash player version.
I'm not sure if we should update to fp10 on 11.0. the same problem is probably on 10.3 as well.

--- Comment #2 from Wolfgang Rosenauer wolfgang@rosenauer.org 2009-09-28 08:54:43 MDT --- According to the security informations from Adobe the 9.0.246 version should be fine so I'm going to check with FF upstream where the issue is. (Otherwise you want to update to Flash10 in any case?)

--- Comment #4 from Wolfgang Rosenauer wolfgang@rosenauer.org 2009-09-28 11:22:33 MDT --- I've filed a bugreport. Let's see what they have to say. Another "fix" would be to modify the URL which is displayed after an update. The Flash check is performed by the website and not by Firefox so it should be fine to change this URL in case they won't fix the site.

--- Comment #6 from Ludwig Nussel lnussel@novell.com 2009-09-29 01:24:42 MDT --- The hint to go to adobe and download the plugin doesn't make much sense for a distro packaged Firefox anyways. The flash plugin also is packaged as rpm so users are not supposed to download it themselves. They'd lose automatic updates and would have to always update flash manually then.

--- Comment #8 from Wolfgang Rosenauer wolfgang@rosenauer.org 2009-10-13 23:27:12 MDT --- I pinged upstream again that this is an issue for us and asked when this will be fixed. If we get no fix we might need to change the prefs: startup.homepage_welcome_url - for new profiles (I guess the same check is performed there) startup.homepage_override_url - for updates
