[Bug 340909] New: very slow map dragging in firefox
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=340909 Summary: very slow map dragging in firefox Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Firefox AssignedTo: bnc-team-mozilla@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: mszeredi@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- After upgrading to 10.3, dragging on maps.google.com or openstreetmap.org seems to have slowed down to a crawl. CPU usage is 100% during the dragging. Just tried chrooting to the old installation, and starting a firefox there (version 2.0.0.4) and it's still quick. So it doesn't seem to be an Xserver issue. Machine is a ThinkPad-T60 CoreDuo-1.8Mhz, 1G memory Graphics card: ATI-X1400, driver: fglrx-8.42.3 (latest) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=340909#c2 Miklos Szeredi <mszeredi@novell.com> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|NEEDINFO |NEW Info Provider|mszeredi@novell.com | --- Comment #2 from Miklos Szeredi <mszeredi@novell.com> 2007-12-03 11:32:04 MST --- I've booted up 10.2 and could reproduce it there as well with firefox 2.0.0.4. So it's not a regression. Also I've observed, that the slowness does not come immediately, that may have led me to believe that this worked OK in the previous version. Sometimes it is quite hard to trigger, but once triggered it remains slow until the reload button is pressed. It is also easier to trigger with openstreetmap.org than with maps.google.com, but both have the same symptoms: scrolling is about 1fps. Looking at top it shows the X server consuming 100% CPU, that makes the binary ATI driver suspect. I could try the framebuffer driver, but it probably wouldn't be better, since there's no 2D accelaration even. Is there a way to debug if it is indeed the X server that is scrolling so slow, or is it firefox that is overloading the X server with many requests? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Adding "XaaNoOffscreenPixmaps" option to the Device section in xorg.conf makes things much faster. It looks like an X driver issue, so I'm closing this bug. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
