[Bug 216857] New: Synaptic touchpad looses bytes
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=216857 Summary: Synaptic touchpad looses bytes Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Beta 1 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: clarkt@cnsp.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Fresh install of OpenSuSE 10.2 Beta 1. HP dv5224 laptop AMD Turion. When trying to use the synaptic touchpad, mouse will stop and jump around the screen. Dmesg reports lost bytes and having to resync the driver. This make using the touch pad difficult to use, especially when on the road and no access to external mouse. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=216857 ------- Comment #3 from clarkt@cnsp.com 2006-11-24 19:39 MST ------- Synaptic touchpad is still broken in 10.2 x86_64 RC1. The touchpad is basicly useless for any work. After repeated loss of sync, the touchpad scroll bar is non functional. If this is not to be fixed, then post notice that touchpads are broken in the GM. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

And I cannot use it, until I leave it alone for a moment. I stopped counting at about 50 of these Blocks only for today. Moreover the mouse pointer might jump to arbitrary positions (often on the screens edges). --- Mar 25 17:54:06 Linux-Host kernel: Synaptics Touchpad, model: 1, fw: 4.1, id: 0x848a1, caps: 0x0/0x0 Mar 25 17:54:06 Linux-Host kernel: input: SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad as /class/input/input3 If these last two lines follow immediately, my touchpad is reduced to a kind of fallback (one or two times a day). The sensitivity is extremely high and its very hard to aim at something. The scrolling (horizontal and vertical) is deactivated and I cannot tap anymore (no leftclick in center, no right and no middle button in the respective corners). Functionality is restricted to the touchpad-area for moving and the extra hardware buttons to click only. As a workaround, I switch user and immediately log back into my Session with Ctrl+I. Already in the login-prompt, I can feel the mouse pointer calm down. But there is nothing to test, if scrolling works. But once I'm back in my session, everything seems fine (scrolling & tapping & dragging). Other than stated in Bug 164093 I could not see anything related to ACPI. The only mention I found was every boot, ACPI reports the battery and the different power buttons. After that I'll create a patch to disable the MUX mode on your laptop automatically - it's not necessary for machines that don't have an external mouse port and some laptops have bugs in the firmware implementing the multiplexing, resulting in lost bytes. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

The system was alredy running and I just plugged it in. At first, it seemed to work, even the wheel of the external mouse. But then I just touched the touchpad and immediately got a sync lost (The timegap is due to the fact, that I had to remember the keyboard shortcut to open up the start-menue): Mar 30 16:12:24 Linux-Host kernel: psmouse.c: TouchPad at isa0060/serio1/input0 lost sync at byte 1 Mar 30 16:12:24 Linux-Host kernel: psmouse.c: issuing reconnect request Mar 30 16:12:25 Linux-Host kernel: input: ImPS/2 Generic Wheel Mouse as /class/input/input3 Mar 30 16:18:51 Linux-Host kdm: :1[4140]: IO Error in XOpenDisplay Mar 30 16:18:51 Linux-Host kdm[3191]: X server for display :1 terminated unexpectedly Mar 30 16:18:51 Linux-Host kdm[3191]: Display :1 cannot be opened Mar 30 16:18:51 Linux-Host kdm[3191]: Unable to fire up local display :1; disabling. But worse: I unplugged the external mouse and could not click (on the extra buttons) nor tap nor scroll. Only the pointer was moving around. By keyboard I tried switching the user, but only the screen flickered. On trying to reboot, it just hung up. This was the first time my Linux crashed since installation in January ... Instead of intermixing the mice, would there be a way to disable the touchpad on connection of the external mouse and reenable it, once the external mouse is gone? Without the i8042.nomux=1 I was able to intermix both mice. And what made me especially fond was, that I did not have to reboot to use the external wheel. In WinXP I had only scrolling, if the mouse was connected at boot. I could disconnect and reconnect it later, but to activate scrolling, I had to attach it at boot. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
