[Bug 732891] New: Chromium icons
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=732891 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=732891#c0 Summary: Chromium icons Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: X11 Applications AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: nmo.marques@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/535.2 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/15.0.874.120 Safari/535.2 Chromium installs icons, unfortunately this icons are in .png format and do not allow re-scaling. GNOME3 uses icons in a size which is often bigger than the previous version of GNOME (GNOME2), KDE, etc... Chromium icon in GNOME3 is scaled up and ends up being ugly and not fitting properly with other icons. Suggestion: * Remove all the icons installed by Chromium on %install (end, usually where the filesystem operations are done); * Install a single scalable icon on %{_datadir}/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps This should fix this issue and provide a decent icon across different DE's. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install Chromium on GNOME3 2. Open Activities and check the icon Actual Results: Chromium icon is scaled up and gets "blurry" Expected Results: Chromium icon should be displayed at higher resolution -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

This is somehow easy to do. If you want me to fix this, please just point me the devel project and I'll submit and update for it. I don't really have much issues with this bug report since I use Faience/Faenza icon theme which provides icons at decent resolutions, nevertheless it's a small issue to look for. Application icons should be as close as perfect, at least for GNOME3. However with both also the scalable icon is installed in the correct path and format. So it is strange that GNOME 3 prefers to use a static icon instead of the scalable one. Have you tried that if you indeed remove all the static-size icon files from hicolor that the issue is then resolved ? Leave this one to me (unless you know the way out), and I'll submit a fix soon. As a brief explanation... Usually I open an application with ALT+F2 and then it's icon is displayed on left side icon list in activities (Favorites). This icon gets a bit blurred if the application isn't on the Favorites list, if it's on the favorites list it's rendered ok. So after adding Chromium to Favorites, it does work as expected. I can't justify this behavior so I would just risk to say, it's a shell thingie. Chromium working for me on 12.1. Good job.
