[Bug 406538] New: Unable to complete dependency resolution
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=406538 Summary: Unable to complete dependency resolution Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: pzb@novell.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- YaST is unable to complete package selection and dependency resolution during the 11.0 install. It says: nothing provides openSUSE = 11.0 needed by product:openSUSE-FTP-NonOSS-11.0.noarch Steps to reproduce: Start installing 11.0 (preferably from FTP) Add the non-oss repo as an add-on Possible cause: non-oss/content has "REQUIRES openSUSE = 11.0", while oss/content has "PROVIDES product:openSUSE = 11.0". This mismatch causes the dependency resolve to fail to find any suitable provider -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Now it looks like the solver doesn't ignore it -> my fault as I didn't fix it right after the release. Looks like we need to resync the content files with the correct values. In this case it won't. The main thing that helps here is that mirrors update their copy of 11.0. And this is something which we can't influence really. Obviously, mirrors won't sync the 11.0 tree very frequently (they shouldn't). This is why I mailed you guys a few days ago, because if I had been notified in advance that the tree is going to modified, we could have dealt with it in time :-) I basically ask anybody who modifies the tree to either be aware of the implications that modifications have on content distribution, or get in contact with the mirror admins (me). The process of content distribution may be a litle more complex than you might expect. The volume of our trees brings about some complexity to deal with it. I am constantly working to document it, the material of my latest talk could help here also, to be found at http://www.poeml.de/~poeml/talks/download-infra.pdf (slides) and http://tube.opensuse.org/talks/talk_2008-07-03_redirector.ogg (video) Now, if the problem really only affects "content" and "content.asc" files, it is easily feasible to work around on the server, so it doesn't redirect those files to mirrors in the 11.0 tree. I added this exception now: # https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=406538 # Bug 406538 – Unable to complete dependency resolution # this is workaround until all mirrors have the updated their 11.0 copy (which had been respun) # I suggest to remove this workaround in a month. # Thu Jul 10 13:34:16 CEST 2008, poeml <Directory /srv/ftp/pub/opensuse/distribution/11.0/repo> ZrkadloExcludeFileMask "/(content|content.asc)" </Directory> -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
