Hi - do you have gnome-shell-classic installed?
no, standard gnome install x86_64 RC1 Download today
And if not; does installing that help?

Settings->Tweak-Tool->Desktop->Icons on Desktop: ON log off + log on Activities->Nautilus won't start
same in Terminal
Settings->Tweak-Tool->Desktop->Icons on Desktop: OFF Nautilus is working again
Strange, but the same things happens with the Opera browser (for me at least). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I doubt this is in ANY way related; you can't have Opera to paint your desktop; Whatever the issue for you with opera, please file a different, independent bug for that. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Some work is done on nautilus; can you please give the nautilus package in home:dimstar:boo900728 a try?
(the repository should shortly land at boo900728/standard">http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/dimstar:/ boo900728/standard )
I tried it, and it's still not good for me. I noticed this: after I log in I have to killall nautilus (the icons on the desktop will be gone as well of course) and if I try nautilus after that, then it works perfectly. I can't tell if it is a new thing in this version. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

That's not new here: killing nautilus is like switching the background painter off and then nautilus works.
Ok, but when I start nautilus (after killing it) the desktop icons appear again, and then everything is great :)
I do suspect that the new version would already allow you to: - have nautilus draw your desktop icons (don't be so violent and kill it) - In the dashbar, you can right click nautilus and trigger new window (the default action is to get to the running nautilus, which is your desktop).
Can you confirm this? Then it's not perfect, but a step in the right direction.
I'm sorry, but I can't confirm: Nautilus draws the desktop icons, but I cannot start a new window. In the dashboard it gets the decoration which indicates it is starting/running, but that's all. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

:) This happens beucase nautilus get's sometimes started in different ways (sometimes as gappliation-service, sometimes with -n). Seems not yet very clear when which one happens.

Ok, thanks for the tests... more work happening I'm afraid. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Hi Dominique, your changes get it right: sudo zypper ar http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/dimstar:/boo900728/standard NautilusTest sudo zypper in -r NautilusTest nautilus-3.14.0-4.1.x86_64 gnome-shell-search-provider-nautilus-3.14.0-4.1.x86_64 libnautilus-extension1-3.14.0-4.1.x86_64 sudo reboot Now I can switch between "icons on desktop" active and inactive with and without relogin or restart gnome with ALT-F2+r. All times the nautilus come up. Thank you very much! Should I close the report or should I wait until it is deployed to the Update-Service?
