[Bug 786985] New: Utilizing the kernel 3.7-rc2 from Kernel:HEAD results in a sluggish desktop experience
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=786985 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=786985#c0 Summary: Utilizing the kernel 3.7-rc2 from Kernel:HEAD results in a sluggish desktop experience Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Factory Version: 12.3 Milestone 0 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SUSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: tittiatcoke@gmail.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.16 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/24.0.1304.0 Safari/537.16 SUSE/24.0.1304.0 I am not sure how exactly to describe it and it also seems to be dependent on the type of hardware you use to run openSUSE. I have always been following the kernels from Kernel:HEAD, but the kernel 3.7-rc2 has certain regressions to (as it seems) the KMS and/or graphics drivers. Once the 3.7 kernel is installed, you can see that plymouth is not as smooth running as on the 3.6 kernel. Once the desktop (in my case KDE) is up and running, things feels sluggish as if either the video buffer or the disk i/o is slower. I know that at this moment the 3.7 kernel is not in Factory, but I would like to point this issue out as that I have heard from more people that they have a similar experience. I am running a Lenovo T410 Thinkpad (with an I5 and Intel graphics) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
