[Bug 373204] New: Wish: Different windowtitle 'loadscreen' Yast sw_wingle
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=373204 Summary: Wish: Different windowtitle 'loadscreen' Yast sw_wingle Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Alpha 3 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: bart.otten85@gmail.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Goodday, I have a Wish. Just a wish but I think it's handy for a lot of users. Case: If Yast2 Software Management is started, a load-screen wil appear showing the repo-metadata downloads. This screen 'pops up' for some second (new zypper is so fast) and then the 'main window' is showed. This screen is annoying me cause in those few second I really believe that sw_single is loading and doing it's job. So I can do another task. In KDE (maybe others) a window can be bounded to rules. Forcing the load-screen to the background is one of them. However: Seems like there is not really an easy option to force the screen cause it's 'specifications' are shared with the main window. One of the (simple) options is to have another window-title for it so that makes the difference. In that case I can force the load-screen to the background and only the main-window will appear when ready. ps. It's not useful for this post but I can help myself posting this: Alpha3 allready rocks soooo hard. Themed installer, superfast Zypper, KDE4..oh my ;) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Goodday,

You probably mean the underlying libzypp (using the satsolver-tools the main responsible for the speed) as that is what both zypper and yast use.
This screen is annoying me cause in those few second I really believe that sw_single is loading and doing it's job. So I can do another task. In KDE
Hm. You may be most of the time, but when a problem occurs (slow data connection, lots of repos refreshing at once, etc.) you woudn't know what's the progress.

Hm. I'm not sure if this would make much sense, really. Lukas: this feature is apparently about yast-qt windows not zypper :O) Reassigning to Huha, CCing Lada.

Glad to read that :O) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

This is not reasonably feasible with the current YaST2 architecture. The UI engine is a toolkit. It assigns a window title that seems to make most sense - the name of the YCP module currently running. And that is "sw_single.ycp" in this case. If anybody has a patch (that does not break other cases), I will gladly apply it. But I don't see a reasonable way for this very special case. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
