Today again I tested with live cd - 11.4 and in works well - no hissing, so it must be only 12.1 related. I'm attaching lspci, uname, lsmod and screen captures of mixer levels from both - 12.1 and working 11.4. NOTE: pulseaudio is disabled in both! Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. must have Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA) 2. Open e.g. audacity 3. record mic input Actual Results: There is hissing sound in backgroud - it's annoying when talking with someone via voip. I've tested with 2 sequential skype test calls, one before and one after issuing above command. "rpm -ivh --force --nodeps kernel-xxx.rpm" should work for multiple kernels. Then test the basic recording via: arecord -Dplughw -fdat -vv foo.wav on both 11.4 and 12.1 kernels. (Run hda-verb command above for 12.1 kernel before testing.) If you pass 0x21 instead of 0x20, does it make sound worse? The difference is the bias voltage. 0x21 means the vref-50 and it's usually a better choice for the mic input jack.
