[Bug 644106] New: resume from suspend to ram always fails second resume
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=644106 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=644106#c0 Summary: resume from suspend to ram always fails second resume Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Mobile Devices AssignedTo: mobile-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: dutchkind@txoriaskea.org QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:2.0b5) Gecko/20100831 Firefox/4.0b5 On my Acer Aspire 2920 I can do a suspend to ram, it enters in suspend without problems. But when I resume the laptop, it will sometimes come back to life ok (many times not), but when I suspend again, it will certainly fail to resume. On resume I hear the HD spin up and the dvd drive being accessed, and then the laptop is turned off. After a few seconds it starts by itself again, I hear the HD spin up and the dvd drive being accessed, but then it stops with a black screen, lights indicating something is running, but for the rest nothing. Numlock and Capslock don't show reaction, completely dead. I have to press the power button for a few seconds to shut down and then reboot normally. I have looked into the logs but can't find anything in the logs about this resume attempt. I have a great running system, everything works as should, very stable, except suspend to ram. I would be so nice to get that working! Anyone to take up the challenge? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.suspend to ram using kde's powermanagement button 2.resume 3. Actual Results: Sometimes system awakes from sleep, but 2nd time always fails Expected Results: normal resume -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The steps to reproduce are exactly as above. Suspend to disk works just fine for multiple times in a row. Suspend to RAM does just work the first time. After trying to wake from the 2nd suspend to RAM, I can pass the bootloader and I see messages on the console. However, no graphics seems to be initialized. The notebook doesn't react to key presses, either. Only powercycling helps. These log files don't seem to hold any interesting information (I'll attach them nonetheless): /var/log/pm-powersave.log /var/log/pm-suspend.log -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Boot with init=/bin/bash as a grub parameter 2. $ mount /sys 3. $ mount/proc 4. $ s2ram -f (hope I'm not missing something with the sequence above) Try the last command (4.) multiple times. Ok, my findings are that it suspends fine this way, but resume doesn't happen. I hear the disk spin up, cd-drive accessed, then it stops for a few seconds, after which it tries to access the cd-drive again and then nothing, a blank screen. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=644106 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=644106#c6 --- Comment #6 from Till Dörges <doerges@pre-sense.de> 2013-01-07 23:44:22 UTC --- Sorry for the delay. It took me a while to find a free minute ... The above procedure (booting with init=/bin/bash) leads to a working suspend to RAM - multiple times in a row. While at it I also tried s2ram with a normally booted system (with network and graphical login manager), but from a virtual console (by pressing STRG-ALT-F2). Here everything works fine, too. Multiple suspends with 's2ram -f' work as expected. So perhaps restoring X is part of the problem? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
