[Bug 960949] New: Display Managers only allow a single Login by the same User on the same Machine
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=960949 Bug ID: 960949 Summary: Display Managers only allow a single Login by the same User on the same Machine Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 42.1 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Release Notes Assignee: ke@suse.com Reporter: eich@suse.com QA Contact: coolo@suse.com CC: fcrozat@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Modern desktops, like KDE, Gnome or Xfce don't support multiple concurrent sessions by the same user on the same machine. Therefore, most Display Managers (gdm, lightdm ..) will reject a second login by the same user. For the local session this is usually no issue as most people only run a single seat. However, when enabling 'remote administration' in YaST, one can create multiple remote sessions (using XDMCP). Here any attempt to start a 2nd session is terminated immediately (not even a warning is displayed). With 'autologin' active (the default on openSUSE) this issue becomes even more prominent, as the default user will be logged in at boot time automatically and therefore will not be able to start a remote session (unless logging out locally) This has lead to numerous bug reports in the past, therefore this should be release noted. I'm not proposing any text as I'm not fully acquainted with the issues of multiple concurrent sessions of he same user. Maybe our enterprise desktop guru Frederic can have a quick look over a text proposal. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

as this is not specific to one release of openSUSE, I'm not so sure this is a topic for the release notes. It's rather something for the documentation.
The question remains if documentation in whatsoever form can help with the problem.
The best solution would be to have the DMs display a message with an OK button. But we don't even have this for gdm on SLE12, yet. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
