(or gstreamer-plugins-bad-orig-addon from Packman if you prefer)
Sorry, I mean gstreamer-plugins-ugly-orig-addon. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

rpm -qlp gstreamer-plugins-ugly-1.8.3-4.1.x86_64.rpm | grep mpg /usr/lib64/gstreamer-1.0/libgstmpg123.so
mpg123 module is definitively in the Leap 42.3 based -ugly package... no need for the -orig-addon here. orig-addon brings additionally lame, mad, and twolame
gst-inspect-1.0 | grep mpg123 mpg123: mpg123audiodec: mpg123 mp3 decoder
Also looks good. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

@Wolfgang: can you please confirm that gstreamer-plugins-ugly from TW would be sufficient too - instead of gstreamer-plugins-ugly-orig-addon from 3rd party?
I noticed meanwhile that gstreamer-plugins-ugly is actually built with mp3 support in 42.3, but as you write it's not installed by default either. I can confirm that installing it manually (from the 42.3 repo) does fix the problem as well without using Packman. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I'd suggest to add a note to the release notes that gstreamer-plugins-ugly is needed for out of the box mp3 playback with free software. That's a universal fact for all desktop environments I guess :-)
Or gstreamer-fluendo-mp3, like it is since a long time... ;-) All multimedia guides I know do recommend to install though. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

too late for 42.3, I'd suggest to add a note to the release notes that gstreamer-plugins-ugly is needed for out of the box mp3 playback with free software. That's a universal fact for all desktop environments I guess :-)
