For example, the computer was switched off without a normal shutdown. In this case the pid-files in /var/run/pcscd wouldn't delete and at the next startup the pcscd recognizes this and mean it is running. IMHO it lacks a real test by the pcscd or the init-script if running pcscd really. If the pcscd not really running the pcscd or the init script should be delete the pid-files and start the pcscd normal. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Stop the pcscd with kill -9 2. service pcscd start 3. You see the error message and this lines in /var/log/messages Apr 11 19:16:05 achim pcscd: pcscdaemon.c:369:main() Maybe another pcscd is running? Fixed means that we recover from such a situation now. It's not absolutely clear what the exact situation is to trigger the issue and therefore fixing the underlying issue is going to be hard.
