Suggestion to use nomodeset resulted in (at reboot ) 1: dhcp not able to init eth0 and 2: the system starting in single user mode.
I'm afraid that you are mixing up two different bugs. I've noticed that the DHCP failure even can occur with a vanilla 2.6.34.8 kernel, so it's unrelated to this bug. A workaround for the DHCP issue that seems to help here is to increase DHCLIENT_WAIT_AT_BOOT from 15 to 60s in /etc/sysconfig/network/dhcp. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

This is definitly a kernel bug, the messages start very early in the boot process ! Above message comes with both nomodeset and without ! Why nomodeset stops DHCP from working, no idea, but this is collateral damage and not relevant if nomodeset is not working as suggested. Changing DHCLIENT_WAIT_BOOT as suggested only increases the wait time before init continues to runlevel 1 ! -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Understood. Still, please refrain from doing so. It will just distract me from the core issues, create overhead and waste valuable time better spent in investigating the root cause. I know that in this bugzilla it is rather common place to zero in on one bug and pile up all completely unrelated grievances with this world on a single bug. Sometimes out of lack of experience sometimes out of pure ignorance. In any case this makes the lives of those who have a bit of a clue and are trying to help even harder. (I like the previous comment: it was clearly marked 'off topic' so I immediately knew that what I read from there in is not meant to contribute to the issue at hand. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Reports against openSUSE 11.4 and prior will not get the attention needed to resolve them before openSUSE 12.2 is release and openSUSE 11.4 becomes unmaintained. Please re-test with openSUSE 12.1 or openSUSE RC2+ and re-open with an updated Product if you still encounter your issue.
