I totally agree with Franck's bug 1131144 comment 4 that this is systemd's "interface" for running the offline update scripts as documented in https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/systemd-update-done.service..., so I just implemented that interface. I'd suggest to continue the discussion in bug 1131144 if you want to have a more general approach or another interface.
