https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=749426 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=749426#c0 Summary: Quanta installation failure Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Applications AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: marc@marcchamberlin.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:10.0.2) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/10.0.2 I tried to install Quanta (an HTML editor) and YaST2 reported it did so successfully. However, no link for it showed up in the SuSE menu > Applications the standard paths. So, where is it? And why didn't it get installed in a fashion that would be easy for a user to run it? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install Quanta via YaST 2. Try and figure out how to run it after installation 3. Actual Results: I got mad! Expected Results: I expected to installation to make me a happy user just by typing in the command - quanta or finding a link in the KDE menus and clicking on it. In openSuSE11.3 quanta installed just fine, with a link to it in the kicker menu. So something broke it in the meantime... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

What packages do you install and which distribution do you use? The package is named kde3-quanta. I also suppose you may be not running KDE3 in that case try to run it as /opt/kde3/bin/quanta -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Yes, I finally found it and guess I forgot to report back and close this bug. I dunno why it failed to show up in the KDE menus when I initially installed it, but I just reinstalled it and this time it did. Perhaps something got fixed in the meantime.. My expectation was that even though openSuSE 12.1 has moved on to KDE4, KDE3 apps would continue to install and run (backwards compatibility) like they have done in the past... Was really surprised when it did not show up as expected in the menus and I don't claim to be a Linux/openSuSE expert to be able to grok where things end up... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
