[Bug 611111] New: partition numbers are wrong during partition setup
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=611111 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=611111#c0 Summary: partition numbers are wrong during partition setup Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: steve@kelem.net QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100407 Ubuntu/9.10 (karmic) Firefox/3.6.3 The partition numbers are different before, inside, and outside the installation. Before (and outside) the installation, I have: % parted -l Model: ATA ST9250410ASG (scsi) Disk /dev/sda: 250GB Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/512B Partition Table: msdos Number Start End Size Type File system Flags 1 32.3kB 263MB 263MB primary fat16 type=06 2 263MB 63.2GB 62.9GB primary ntfs boot, type=07 3 63.2GB 250GB 187GB extended type=05 5 63.2GB 63.3GB 107MB logical ext4 type=83 6 63.3GB 126GB 62.9GB logical ext4 type=83 7 126GB 242GB 116GB logical ext4 type=83 8 242GB 250GB 7995MB logical linux-swap(v1) type=82 The mount points are: sda1 /windows/D sda2 /windows/C sda5 /boot sda6 / sda7 /local Inside the installation's Expert Partitioner, I get: /dev/sda 232.89 GB ST925... /dev/sda1 250.98 MB FAT16 FAT /windows/D /dev/sda2 58.59 GB HPFS/NTFS NTFS OS /windows/C /dev/sda3 174.04 GB Extended /dev/sda5 101.94 MB Linux native Ext4 /boot /dev/sda6 58.59 GB Linux native Ext4 / /dev/sda7 7.45 GB Linux swap Swap /dev/sda8 20.00 GB Linux native Ext4 ?? /dev/sda9 87.90 GB Linux native /local? If I pop out of the installation into a console, I can mount /dev/sda7 and I see that it's the /local partition, as shown by the parted command, above, not the swap partition as shown by the installer. The df command shows that /dev/sda7 has 107G which corresponds more to the parted output than to the installer's output. The only partition I'm willing to have re-formatted is /, namely /dev/sda6. When I complete the Expert Partitioner, it says: Partitioning Delete partition /dev/sda7 (107.90 GB) Create partition /dev/sda8 (20.00 GB) for /otherpartition with ext4 Crate partition /dev/sda9 (87.90 GB) for /local with unknown Format partition /dev/sda6 (58.59 GB) for / with ext4 Use /dev/sda7 as swap Set mount point of /dev/sda5 to /boot Set mount point of /dev/sda2 to /windows/C Set mount point of /dev/sda1 to /windows/D So...the Expert Partitioner is not identifying the partitions correctly! It is proposing to wipe out the wrong partition! I am not willing to install 11.2 under these circumstances. Yeah, yeah, I should back up my data, but the installer shouldn't wipe out the wrong partition. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Have partitions, as described above. 2.Boot from the 11.2 x86_64 installation dvd 3.Use manual partitioning. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
