https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=309089 Summary: VirtualBox kernel driver not installed. x86-64 Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Beta 3 Platform: Other OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: snakedriverx@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Beta-Customer On openSuSE10.3b3, using virtualbox-20070822-3 x86-64 rpms with a winxp guest & username setup correctly, I get: "VirtualBox kernel driver not installed. The vboxdrv kernel module was either not loaded or /dev/vboxdrv was not created for some reason. Re-setup the kernel module by executing '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup' as root. VBox status code: -1908 (VERR_VM_DRIVER_NOT_INSTALLED)." When I modprobe vboxdrv, /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup fails with vboxdrv not found. Here is the response : linux-unv9:/usr/lib64/virtualbox # sh ./VirtualBox_1.5.0_Linux_amd64.run installVerifying archive integrity... All good. Uncompressing VirtualBox for Linux installation........ VirtualBox Version 1.5.0 (Fri Aug 31 16:46:42 CEST 2007) installation Please install the build and header files for your current Linux kernel. The current kernel version is 2.6.22.5-29-default Problems were found which would prevent VirtualBox from installing. Please correct these problems and try again. I could find a kernel header package in yast that I updated but same error in the install. I couldn't find any package related to "build files"... https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=309089#c7 --- Comment #7 from DERUMAUX Marc <marc.derumaux@free.fr> 2007-09-25 11:38:23 MST --- Thanks, it (almost) works. I had not installed the Kernel Sources. (gcc was installed and I just updated the package ; I could not find any package called gcc-devel with the search tool of yast) May be the Kernel-source package should be included in the dependances of VirtualBox package ?? Now I have a new problem with virtualbox : It does not launch the machine because it says that "I am not a member of vboxusers group". I opened the users menu of Yast2 and added the vboxusers group to my login but that does not change the virtual box response... Shall I reboot, relog ? thanks, Marc -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

User groups are probably udated at login... Thanks, I'll try to install Windaube now... On 10.2, I used vmware server and I want to try a real opensource software for that.
