https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=721735 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=721735#c0 Summary: Expert Partitioner ... Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Beta 1 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: mmeeks@suse.com QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- On a reasonably fast laptop, when I select a file-system type etc. in the expert partitioner and click 'Finish' - it takes around 10 seconds for the system to respond and refresh the actual partition types, and let me make my next move. That is waay too slow, and far slower than it used to be; I'm launching the installer from the GNOME live-cd. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I spent a while trying to find the name of the magic script that dumps all the logs that Yast2 needs, but couldn't find it - it'd be awesome if your: "Please provide YaST logs." boilerplate you could say: "please run XYZ and attach output." ? :-) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=721735 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=721735#c4 --- Comment #4 from Michael Meeks <mmeeks@suse.com> 2011-10-17 11:33:49 UTC --- It is interesting to me that the CD is in fact spun slow for this 10+ second wait - so it seems unlikely that it is CD related; and indeed it spins down completely before the thing is finished. Anyhow - I include the relevant y2logs just after the huge delay. Actually looking at the console - it looks like something really bad happens with the kernel/CD interface on my machine at least. I get (manually transcribed): EXT4-fs (loop0): Unrecognised mount option "1" or missing value vboxguest: VirtualBox Guest PCI device not found. hda-intel: Invalid position buffer, using LPIV read method instead. 2x of those. ata5.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x6 frozen ata5.00: ST_FIRST !(DRQ|ERR|DF) .. and so on - Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 289376 .. lots of these for various blocks ... Interesting really - the full desktop booted up just fine; I can try to check the media I suppose, but ... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
