[Bug 351896] New: USB system dead on Sony Vaio after otherwise successful SuspendToDisk
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=351896 Summary: USB system dead on Sony Vaio after otherwise successful SuspendToDisk Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: danielstefanmader@web.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- after an otherwise successful suspend to disk and resume operation the USB system is no longer active. Unloading and reloading the modules does not help. Since I don't have physical access to the corresponding machine, I will provide further information as soon as possible: maybe it helps to unload all USB-related modules before the suspend and reload them automatically afterwards. As far as I understand it should be possible to configure this via /etc/pm/sleep.d/ but I can't find proper information on how to best do this... According to http://en.opensuse.org/Pm-utils it should be something like this: #!/bin/bash case $1 in hibernate) echo "Hey guy, we are going to suspend to disk!" modprobe -r usbcore uhci_hcd usbhid ;; suspend) echo "Oh, this time we're doing a suspend to RAM. Cool!" ;; thaw) echo "oh, suspend to disk is over, we are resuming..." modprobe usbcore uhci_hcd usbhid ;; resume) echo "hey, the suspend to RAM seems to be over..." ;; *) echo "somebody is calling me totally wrong." ;; esac All information about the respective hardware of the laptop is attached to bug 350984. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Lack of pre-compiled wireless drivers should not prevent USB testing, right?
No, certainly not, you're right. But I have the strong feeling that as soon as I find a more or less working kernel which solves that very issue (and breaks a million others) this bug report will get closed as fixed---no matter if there will ever be a patch for 10.3 or an updated kernel. Don't get me wrong: I am very much for testing and I do want to help track down bugs but in this case I feel it is a waste of time. Big problem on my side is that I have only access to the machine via ssh. So testing is a very very very time-consuming effort for both me and the laptop owner. And frustrating, too. If you can point out any kernel which might potentially have any fix or change in the USB system or so I will happily give it another try. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
