[Bug 1028123] New: Slow: delay between login and final workspace extrem large
http://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1028123 Bug ID: 1028123 Summary: Slow: delay between login and final workspace extrem large Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 42.2 Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE 42.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE Workspace (Plasma) Assignee: opensuse-kde-bugs@opensuse.org Reporter: werner@suse.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created attachment 716442 --> http://bugzilla.suse.com/attachment.cgi?id=716442&action=edit the ~/.xsession-errors-:0 This was an fresh update from Leap 42.1 to Leap 42.2. After login via kdm (no sddm as this one does not support several virtual consoles) the symbolized clock takes several minutes on a 16G i7 to reach a usable workspace. In comparision: my personal desktop takes 3 seconds (fvwm2+lxsession+lxpannel). Btw: There was no decoration at the first time and the user space interface is extrem poor to get a working decoration again. Also it would be very nice aka user friendly if the former configuration of a personal workspace would survive a version upgrade or at least if the users would be instructed at the first login HOW to restore and/or change the personal configuration. Further on the log file ~/.xsession-errors-:0 shows a lot of warnings and or errors mixed with messages from firefox ... but without any timestamps from the side of KDE and also without quantifying the importance like is it a warning or is it an error. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Sounds like kwin crashed, which graphics driver is in use?

It should do this by default.

Firefox messages that early means that session restoration is likely turned on. Turn it off in Desktop Configuration -> Startup and Shutdown -> Desktop Session -> Start with empty session That would also explain why startup takes so long, as it waits for all applications to start up fully. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

intel we have configured one and this worked ... therefore I guess that the former decoration theme had simply become skipped without an other default.

I in doubt that my wife would accept this. This is heavily used and had worked out on 42.1. I'd like to prefer something like a delayed restore of e.g. firefox -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

42.2 supports all themes which were in 42.1 as well, nothing should be lost there. Which theme was selected previously?

Can you confirm that session restoring is the issue here? What happens if you disable the splash screen completely? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
