[Bug 769804] New: Update of grub2 via zypper up hangs at 100%, waiting for not present floppy disk
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=769804 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=769804#c0 Summary: Update of grub2 via zypper up hangs at 100%, waiting for not present floppy disk Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Beta 2 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Bootloader AssignedTo: jsrain@suse.com ReportedBy: j.reitsma@hccnet.nl QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:13.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/13.0 The 28th of June I did a zypper up on the 12.2 beta 2 (Mantis) located on my test disk. Some 2000 packages were to be upgraded, one of them grub 2. Installation of grub halted at 100%, so I decided to give it a Ctr-C, whereupon zypper complained that grub was unable to read from /dev/fd0. No surprise, since a floppy station is present, but no floppy in it. Install of grub being at 100% I chose Ignore, and the install of the rest went on OK. After that I could boot from that disk initially. After 3 times trying the disk (to me mysteriously) booted again, and has done so since. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=769804 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=769804#c2 --- Comment #2 from Jogchum Reitsma <j.reitsma@hccnet.nl> 2012-09-11 17:54:58 UTC --- I'll have to check that, and that will take a few days. 12.2 Factory is installed on a separate disk on my pc, and is upgraded trough the milestones to the final version, which has now arrived. Now I mmust upgrade the main disk system from 12.1 to 12.2, and if that goes well, I can install 12.3-Factory on the separate disk. So please have a little patience, I'll be back here. By the way, I haven't noticed this behavior in the 12.2 milestones after beta 2 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

This is just for your information, please don't hurry and enjoy your time :) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Now not only grub2 (v. 2.00-1.15.1), but also grub2-branding-openSUSE v. 12.2-11.12.1, lvm2 (2.02.84-26.12.1), and plymouth (0.8.6.1-1.19.1) Eventually they all install, but it takes a lot of time (some 15 minutes before all 4 where installed), and it floods the system log. All on 12.2, 12.3 is still too unstable too install. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
