[Bug 598206] New: Clicking 'Help' in Gnome launches KDE4 help system
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=598206 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=598206#c0 Summary: Clicking 'Help' in Gnome launches KDE4 help system Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: drankinatty@suddenlinkmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Guys, How do I stop the kde4 help system from launching every time I click on help in GNOME? In Gnome, when I click help, I want Gnome help (yelp), not the kde4 help system telling me it can't find subject "XYZ...". Example, in Gnome -> Evolution -> Preferences, clicking on 'Help' launches the KDE4 help center with the following error: "The file or folder help:/usr/share/gnome/help-bundle/evolution/C/evolution.xml?config-prefs does not exist" Obviously this shouldn't happen. In Gnome, the gnome help system should be launched. This bug effects all help in Gnome and is repeatable every time. To get to the gnome help, I have to use the menus or Alt+F2 to launch yelp, then navigate to the topic of interest (not always easily identified when launched from a dialog). On this box I have kde3, kde4, gnome and a few of the 'box' desktops installed. In kde3, I get kde3 help, it seems to be a problem that currently only effects everything in Gnome. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=598206 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=598206#c1 --- Comment #1 from David Rankin <drankinatty@suddenlinkmail.com> 2010-05-10 02:52:13 UTC --- Guys, Just checking on progress and providing a bit of new information that may help. I just finished intentionally wiping out my ~/{.config,.gconf,.gconfd,.gnome2,.gnome2_private,.kde,.local} to force a rebuild of the desktop configs for gnome and kde, to investigate this bug and due to the bug in kde3 where no menu entries and no kcontrol modules are shown (even though they show up just fine when, for example, you browse the menu to add an application to the panel) Here, despite completely wiping out the gnome config, the kde4 help system still launches when you click on any context help in gnome. Very frustrating. This not only affects gnome, but it also happens in xfce if you are running a gnome app, like gedit, and click on help. I have also searched the gnome database through gconf-editor searching for any help, yelp, ghelp, kde, khelp, etc... and there is nothing related to kde help or khelpcenter mentioned in the gnome database. All keys there are properly set, for example: /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/ghelp/command is set to: gnome-help "%s" Please give this bug some help and please don't just wait for the clock to run out on 11.0 support. I will need 11.0 for a while longer for my laptop since it is the only distro that I can still use the fglrx driver in. (the ATI 'screw the customer' "legacy card" issue) It is so bad that with either the radeonhd or radeon drivers, that desktop effects crash or continually shutdown due to insufficient resources. So if you need ANY additional information or want me to run additional test, just let me know and -- I'm on it.
