I would like to use kdm to host X server for X terminals. I tried to connect from a remote machine to suse 11 X server but when I log in the remote machine freezes. Only reset helps. I tried to connect from :suse 10, opensuse 10.3, a SLAX distrib v6.0.7 and a very old debian distro. To give you as much info as much I can I made a test with almost all of the windowmanagers. Our network has NIS to authenticate users. NIS server is an another machine on the network. The clients are very different kind of machine and Linux distros. The problem is appears when I enter the password and the system accepts it. The greeter disappears and I only see the green-gray-green screen and the mouse pointer. The screen and the machine totally freezed. If I connect with Xnest remotely, works well, I'm able to login, logout, and login again with another user. If I connect from localhost with this command: X -ac -query IP Works well too as above I wrote. No freeze. Cygwin works too. But if I connect from any other way it stops. In the logs I did not found anything but I can send you logs if you need. I tried it with an nvidia and an ATI card with standard drivers ( mean: as SaX2 founds ) and with vesa driver. I modified in the kdmrc file the StaticServers=:0 to StaticServers= and I set XDMCP to true to enable remote connect. No other.
