[Bug 640369] New: screen0 must be on Nvidia
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=640369 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=640369#c0 Summary: screen0 must be on Nvidia Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: nothereforever@hotmail.com QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100401 Firefox/3.6.3 hi, i have set up the system and have experienced bug (https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=631284). decided to change the screen assignment around so my ATI could be screen0 to see if bug still exists. however after swapping screen0 and screen2 identifiers under two of the section "screen" places, the nvidia card will not start. example: section screen identifier "screen0" device "device0" #screen0 of card0 (nvidia 7800 gtx) [other information] section screen identifier "screen2" device "card1" #only one screen on X700 [other information] this is not related to the Nvidia driver as i decided to also try to avoid the above bug by trying to force it to use the Vesa driver (as most video cards should work with this) for both device0 and device1 (monitor 0 and 1 of nvidia card) and the result was that if the NV card was set to screen0 it would start both screens from power saving mode and put the flashing cursor on both (not high res), the ati card (boot up card) would have a small horizontal white line (in high res mode), and nothing more would happen (does respond to the power button) (it could be the nvidia card will not use device 0 and 1 independantly with the Vesa driver on both). if swapped, the nvidia card would not initialise at all (this bug). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.swap "screen0" with "screen_" under "section "screen"" of xorg.conf. and if the card dont want to start you cant do anything with it. 2. 3. more information on this setup can be found here: http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-help-here/hardware/446567-flashing-mo... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Unfortunately we can't track any NVIDIA driver bugs filed against openSUSE in Novell's bugzilla. Please complain directly to NVIDIA. Thanks.
please read what i wrote and you will see this has nothing to do with the nvidia driver. especailly the the block of text that starts with "this is not related to the Nvidia driver..." and i explain why. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
