[Bug 389373] New: Access denied when trying to write to Samba share
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=389373 Summary: Access denied when trying to write to Samba share Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Beta 2 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Samba AssignedTo: samba-maintainers@SuSE.de ReportedBy: ingesvensson@bredband.net QAContact: samba-maintainers@SuSE.de Found By: --- 1) Open Nautilus/Konqueror or Dolphin. 2) On Dolphin/Nautilus click or double click on Network. On Konqueror write remote:/ in address field and hit enter (or from menu Go choose Network Directories) 3) In Konqueror/Dolphin click Samba shares. 4) Click or double click desired share. 5) Create new directory. 6) Nautilus does, but Konqueror/Dolphin says access denied. Workaround: 1) In Dolphin/Konqueror in the address field write: smb:/samba_user@server_name 2) Open desired directory. 3) Create new directory 4) New directory is created. 5) But the remote:/ command is easier when you don't know the name of the server. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Is the URI the same or does it differ? d) Is authentication required to write to the share or not? e) If authentication is required, do you get a username/password dialog? Please be more precise! -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It seems that it has something to do with smb:/smb-network. I don't know if this is related to Konqueror/Dolphin or Samba. b) The server is a Samba server. c) I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but if I use remote:/ the URI is smb://smb-network/web and when I the working way it's smb://root@server/web d) Authentication to write is required. e) Yes I get a username/password dialog. The strange thing I found out is that when I write smb:/root@server and the the dialog has filled in root as username I can write to it, but if I connect to smb:/server and then fill in root as username in the dialog and the password I also get access denied when I try to write to the share. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I tried with Konqueror for KDE 3 on two machines and this problem doesn't occur. Instead the username was added in the URI after the password was sent. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
