[Bug 693338] New: DVD upgrade fails to activate wireless network.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=693338 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=693338#c0 Summary: DVD upgrade fails to activate wireless network. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Update Problems AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: carlos.e.r@opensuse.org QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- DVD upgrade fails to activate wireless network. I attempted to upgrade my 11.2 to 11.4, via DVD-boot-upgrade. I edited some external repos, which requires network connection. YaST detected both Wi-Fi and ethernet hardware, and proceeded to activate wifi via dhcp. The light of the device went blue, which meant working: but it requested a dhcp lease without even asking me which of the wireless networks available in the neighborhood is mine, and what password does it have (an information it could get from the hard disk). It failed, obviously. I connected then the cable, but it failed to try it. I had to reboot and try again, this time with the cable connected. It worked instantly. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Does the wlan work after reboot.
Of course: the wlan in the installed system works perfectly before and after the upgrade. Not during the upgrade, while what runs is the booted 11.4 DVD -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Of course: the wlan in the installed system works perfectly before and after the upgrade.
In this case I have to re-assign to the default. May it would be good to review the update process if this shall be supported. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It would help to have the yast logs from the time of the upgrade. Please attach them if they have not rotated away. http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Bugreport_YaST
Will do. The upgrade was finished "Jun 3 03:01:33". I have deleted from the tar later files.
Are you using NetworkManager, or have all the wifi settings in an ifcfg file?
None. During the upgrade all those settings are ignored, the DVD is boss. However, during normal system usage, I use traditional network setup. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Unfortunately the logs only start at 2011-06-03 15:02:14.
OOPS! I made a big mistake: I collected the logs from the wrong computer. Judging from the logs, the first boot after the upgrade was done 2011-05-08 03:04:47+02:00, ie, 4 days before I created this report. The first entry in the yast2logs archive, file y2log-5, is dated "2011-05-08 00:49:33 <1>". If we can assume the timezone is the same⁽¹⁾, those logs should contain interesting data for you. I will attach them now. (1) During install, the default timezone is from the USA, not the real one (CET). I don't know what time zone is used during a DVD upgrade. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
