https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=404569 Summary: kde3 opensuse-updater does not show why an update failed Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: libzypp AssignedTo: zypp-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: shiverma@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- When I added kde4 factory repository, it refreshed and immediately showed 83 updates. When I tried to update the software, I noticed, twice a problem of: "No reply from daemon" popup, with some client.cpp and kdesu in the error message. I am sorry, I dont remember the exact details. Anyway, I started the updater again, selected all the packages and clicked the install button, the kdesu error popup did not show up, but interestingly the update never went through, without telling what the problem was. After that, to investigate further, I started the package manager, and went to the kde4 pattern, there as expected I saw a whole lot of packages with newer versionsavailable. When I clicked on, "update all packages with newer version", the solver gave and error in some dependencies, actually a whole lot of them. Now, while this is OK, as atleast it is telling me about the version dependencies, it would be nice if the updater also complained about dependencies, instead of showing the same green icon in the tray with mouseover pop saying: New updates available. Also, if would be great if the icon changed colour when there are new packages, depending on the priority of the packages. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

When I added kde4 factory repository, it refreshed and immediately showed 83 updates. That sounds link a problem of kdesu. If it works if you run opensuseupdater as root please report a bug to kdesu.
This is a duplicate of 399661.
Also, if would be great if the icon changed colour when there are new packages, depending on the priority of the packages. That already works. The green color means: no or only optional updates available. Yellow and red are for more important updates.

I meant color change be there for optional updates available as well. If a user "show available upgrades....(experts only)", it should show some color change as he/she might be interested in the optional updates status. GNOME's packagekit based updater shows these as new software available, with the choice to upgrade with the user. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

We want to encourage users to install security updates but optional updates aren't that important. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
