CC'ing adrian because legal status is unclear (at least to me). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=279967 ------- Comment #2 from anicka@novell.com 2007-06-04 08:08 MST ------- We have a non-public Packager's manual, which contains public SUSE Package Conventions. Anyway, IMHO it just does not make sense to import SPC into the wiki - SPC are maintained inside SUSE and it is not a good idea to have world-editable wiki version of SPC different from the SUSE one. IMHO it is enough to link SPC from the wiki. Maybe we could make the docbook source public and accept patches from the community. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=279967 dmueller@novell.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|NEEDINFO |NEW Info Provider|dmueller@novell.com | ------- Comment #4 from dmueller@novell.com 2007-06-06 07:41 MST ------- it is my understanding that the manual at http://w3d.suse.de/Dev/Components/Packages/PackMan/packagers_manual.html/vie... is/was split into a public/nonpublic part, and the public part is called "suse packaging conventions". This part is currently on novellforge on some ftp server, and instead of being there (in an outdated version), the current version should be added to the wiki and maintained there. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=279967 ------- Comment #5 from dmueller@novell.com 2007-06-06 07:42 MST ------- There might be some misunderstanding involved here or you might not be the right person for that, I don't know. I have yet to find out who is responsible :) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

But if we will maintain SPC in wiki, I will probably not do it anymore as it will not make any sense :-) If you want to switch SPC to wiki, please discuss technical issues with Martin Kudlvasr. We could export it to the wiki - but I consider maintaining it via subversion the better solution. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=279967 ------- Comment #9 from anicka@novell.com 2007-06-08 02:16 MST ------- AJ: Personally, I am not really sure what approach is better, there are pros and cons for both the solutions. This is what we discussed at our last packagers meeting: Pros: - less work for us - more open model of the document creation Cons: - synchronization with our internal version - possible conflicts in the future when we might adopt "common" conventions with other distros But maybe it is worth trying, community projects usually develop faster than projects with one busy maintainer. Maybe Vladimir will have something more to say... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=279967 cschum@novell.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |cschum@novell.com ------- Comment #10 from cschum@novell.com 2007-06-08 02:50 MST ------- Having the packaging documentation in the Wiki lowers the barrier for contributions, so in the end we are likely to get better documentation than with a more closed model. It of course doesn't mean that the docs will be arbitrarily changed. I think it's very well possible to keep this under some control. But this can be done by communication and doesn't need to be done by restrictive permissions. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
