[Bug 784162] New: The Partitioner Tool Called from a New Installation Fails to be able to remove an NTFS Partition
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=784162 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=784162#c0 Summary: The Partitioner Tool Called from a New Installation Fails to be able to remove an NTFS Partition Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Factory Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: secure@aphofis.com QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:15.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/15.0.1 During a standard non automated new KDE Installation 11.4 X_64, the Partitioner tool is presented but cannot remove an NTFS Partition. To Test and observe this you need at least 2 HDD ,both 1TB or larger. The second HDD must have be completely formatted as NTFS and not marked a system so we have a complete HDD 1TB or Larger formatted with NTFS. Start with a normal Installation, Non-automated-KDE desktop and import the partition setup! Try to edit or delete the complete partition that uses ALL of the HDD Capacity and you will get an error response... Next do not format the drive but change the label to be LD or Linux RAID infact any label. Do not mount the partition. The complete Installation program should abort at the very start of the next installation events - You need to then abort the Installation. Next start a brand new installation...at the point in time when install is "Search for Linux Partitions" either install will sit on the screen in an endless point of trying to search OR The installation will abort at the same "Search for Linux Partitions" The only was I have found to fix this is to start a Windows 7 X_64 Home Premium installation and at the disk partitioner remove its NTFS Format and/or remove it and also leave it unformatted and not active in any way... The Windows Installation program can then be force terminated! Now with a naked HDD the format of the disk a normal Suse Linux installation will be completed without error. Its sad I had to use a third party partitioner to edit and remove or change a HDD that Linux cannot reformat in the case of NTFS. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Steps above 2. 3. Expected Results: I hate the fact that out partitioner cannot remove an NTFS partition or HDD. Having to use a 3rd part partitioner, even if its M.S Windows itself is really sad. As the successful installation of Linux requires all drives to be formatted I cannot offer any logs...but its a really easy one to setup. Let me know if you can find away for the default installation partitioner to remove an NTFS drive....I cant find anyway and I do Full NON-Automated, default user is Not root, type of installation -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Scott Couston, thank you for your report, could you please help to provide y2logs according to the following URL? http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Bugreport_YaST Thanks.
Jiaying Thank you for the reply...This problem I have is supping the standard y2logs as I cannot finish the installation..I could not even get further into the installation before software selection started. As I cannot get past the partitioner part of the installation I cannot provide logs which I always do with any bug involving Installation. The only was to reproduce and capture what is happening would be to simply create the above by installing windows 7 on a multi HDD platform using defaults and then try an opensuse installation as above as you wont be able to delete the NTFS Partition using our partitioner. If I could get my hands on log data I would always provide the log data but I cannot get past the Installation of opensuse 11.4-12.x as I cannot create any EXT3 partition and I cannot delete the NTFS partition as in this bugs title. If you can think of a way of getting log data that shows our partitioner cannot delete ALL or any of the NTFS partitions during install where please help me here. I think this is a rare occasion where this needs to be setup overt there on a test PC using only above environments...Please let me know...Its not a very time consuming test to setup -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
