[Bug 800051] New: Shutdown with systemd hangs

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=800051 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=800051#c0 Summary: Shutdown with systemd hangs Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Factory Version: 12.3 Beta 1 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: aeszter@gwdg.de QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=521519) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=521519) /var/log/messages covering the shutdown User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; en; rv:1.9.2.28) Gecko/20120308 Camino/2.1.2 (like Firefox/3.6.28) Whenever I issue a reboot (or poweroff), the shutdown sequence proceeds until a certain point, but then the machine just sits there doing nothing. This behaviour has been observed for quite some time (>1 week), across all versions of Factory (with a daily "zypper up"). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Issue reboot (or poweroff) Actual Results: Shutdown sequence starts, e.g. network connections are terminated; then the machine does nothing. Expected Results: Conclude the shutdown sequence, then reboot (or switch off the power supply). I am very willing to help debug this. I've booted with systemd.log_level=debug systemd.log_target=syslog and attached /var/log/messages from the shutdown attempt, but I am at a loss as to what to look for. Any help is appreciated. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

When autofs is automatically stopped during the reboot, the main mountpoint (type autofs) is often[1] not unmounted -- an strace run from the debugging console shows umount() calls for the remaining automounted directories, but not for the main mountpoint. Since automount is no longer running, anything accessing that mountpoint will hang. We have /usr/local symlinked to /netmount/local, so that includes everything that looks at $PATH.
