[Bug 801537] New: broken hibernate, broken resume
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=801537 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=801537#c0 Summary: broken hibernate, broken resume Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: RC 1 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SUSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: sbrabec@suse.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=522856) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=522856) hwinfo.txt When trying to hibernate openSUSE 121.3 beta 1 (kernel-desktop-3.7.1-1.1.x86_64) with pm-hibernate, system does not hibernate. openSUSE 12.2 hibernates on that system without any problems. It just switches to a console, cursor appears, a text appears for a fraction of second and then display turns off, but the computer remains on. No disc activity is seen on the LED. When I tried to downgrade kernel to kernel-desktop-3.4.28-2.1.x86_64, it started to hibernate normally, then it turned off, but when tried to resume, system went to a normal boot (but no grub menu appeared). All pm-utils quirks finished OK. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I just tested comment 6. With and without file in comment 4, result is the same:
3 lines on console appear for a small fraction of second. One of these lines is "freezing userspace..." Then display goes off, but the computer remains on. After forced off and on the system boots instead of resume.
Ok, could you find out which of the phases (core processors platform devices freezer) causes the failure? echo core > /sys/power/pm_test echo disk >/sys/power/state If that resumes (it should instantly), continue with processors, platform... until you see the black screen. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I suppose echo 0 > /sys/bus/cpu/devices/cpu1/online echo 1 > /sys/bus/cpu/devices/cpu1/online
triggers that too on 3.7?

processors: Tested 3 times. Once display turns off for 5 seconds, then it goes back, wall displays error on the console. (I forgot the error, but it is surely in the attached log.) Twice it died: screen off, computer on.
Rafael, any idea why echo processors > /sys/power/pm_test echo disk >/sys/power/state fails with 3.7 and 3.8 vanilla on this machine? He saw "No irq handler for vector (irq -1)" once and is (and always was) constantly seeing "Broke affinity for irq XX". -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I see no other option than reporting upstream, we have too little chance to resolve this on our own given rafael removed himself from needinfo...
