By default the locker will wait 60 seconds before really "locking" the screen. But this can be set through the KCM settings. This was built in so that the user has a certain time to prevent that the screen gets locked unintentionally. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

And it is fixed in 4.11.4 anyway. The update for 13.1 should be released really soon now I think. If you don't want to wait, you could of course install KDE from the KDE:Release:411 or KDE:Release:412 repos, see https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:KDE_repositories, but you would need to upgrade the whole KDE in that case, kdebase4-workspace alone is not enough. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

They are kind of badly transulent. I saw this also on different machines. However, the bug to only show the (SUSE) background of the lock screen and then not to start seems to have every single one of them, even the simple "blank screen". Thus I am in heavy doubt that the issue is from the saver itself. At work we have many Ubuntu, Debian, ... systems also with kde and I never saw this. The issue exists since SUSE 12.2 which has introduced some changes to "combine" the locking screen with the screen saver. The issue got worse in time, i.e., the symptom to only show the background image of the lock screen got more frequently. Now, it is almost every time. Do you know, which screen saver (of the automatically installed ones) should not be legacy and thus work? This is a long lasting and annoying bug. No, this is something else. The new screenlocker code from KDE 4.10 hides the desktop by displaying the default background image, so "sensible" data from the desktop is not shown when the screenlocker/screensaver is running. This is by design.
However, the bug to only show the (SUSE) background of the lock screen and then not to start seems to have every single one of them, even the simple "blank screen". Thus I am in heavy doubt that the issue is from the saver itself.
Yes, this is an issue somewhere in the code that starts the screensavers. And of course there's nothing obviously wrong with it, but this happens sometimes anyway. Seems to be some timeout or race condition.
At work we have many Ubuntu, Debian, ... systems also with kde and I never saw this. Luck maybe? On the openSUSE 13.1 system I am at the moment, I don't see it either. But on my other (somewhat slower) system it happens quite often.
The issue exists since SUSE 12.2 which has introduced some changes to "combine" the locking screen with the screen saver. The issue got worse in time, i.e., the symptom to only show the background image of the lock screen got more frequently. Now, it is almost every time.
There was no change in SUSE or openSUSE "to combine the locking screen with the screen saver". This was a change by KDE in KDE 4.10. So the first openSUSE version that had this issue was 12.3. Anyway, my main point was that these are upstream issues. They are known and reported at KDE.
Do you know, which screen saver (of the automatically installed ones) should not be legacy and thus work?
Sorry, I cannot at the moment, because at the system here I don't seem to have the problem. But I found this now: http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=110458 https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=317156 So try to disable the option "Suspend desktop effects for fullscreen windows" in the Desktop Effects settings ("Advanced"). Now that I found that, I can confirm that I have disabled that option on the system where I don't have this problem, and enabled on the other.
This is a long lasting and annoying bug. Yes, but not openSUSE specific. See also https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=224200, f.e.

Well, there always have been problems with this option, see https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=305781 f.e. That's why it is _off_ by default and was even considered to be removed completely a while ago. That said, I now have enabled it here where I didn't have this problem, and still cannot reproduce it. The screensavers just work despite this option being turned on. So there's definitely some other factor involved (graphics driver? CPU/GPU speed?).
