[Bug 846326] New: DNS works intermittently
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=846326 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=846326#c0 Summary: DNS works intermittently Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: tyrel.haveman@attachmate.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de CC: jmason@suse.com Found By: Community User Blocker: --- I am having difficulties with name resolution on my machine. It works for a while, then stops working, then starts working again. Here are the facts that I know: * I think it started when I swapped out my router for another router (both Linksys). I have swapped it back to the original router, however, and it the behavior stuck. * The main symptom is that in Chrome I see "Resolving host" and it sits for a long period of time. If run `dig` when Chrome cannot resolve, it also will time out. * If, while resolution is not happening, I open a tab in my browser and visit the IP of my router (192.168.1.1), all pending DNS resolutions instantly work, and continue to work for some apparently random period of time following. It will also start working again if I wait some unknown period of time. * I have tried changing to different DNS servers, including Google DNS, with the results not being any different. * I have verified that resolv.conf does get updated. * I have switched between NetworkManager and the "traditional" networking and have noticed no change as a result. * I removed the configuration for eth0 entirely, rebooted, and re-added it, with no change in behavior. * I stopped nscd, with no result. * I tethered via USB with my Android phone and disconnected eth0. This worked PERFECTLY, with no problems at all. * A Windows VM running on my machine (bridged networking) has had no problems with DNS. * All other devices on my network, including Windows, Android, Roku, Chromecast, Enphase Envoy, etc., have had no issues with DNS. Let me know if I can provide any additional information or try anything else. I am prepared to just reinstall the OS, but I was advised to first log this report and see if there's a solution before giving up. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
