[Bug 234542] New: Different network config not saved for 2 cards
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=234542 Summary: Different network config not saved for 2 cards Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: f-perret@tiscali.fr QAContact: jsrain@novell.com I have 2 network cards in my computer (wifi and lan), each one need a different config (IP, DNS, router) to work. In YAST, I can only configure a different IP for each card. If I change the DNS or the router for one, it changes also for the other. So I must configure each time I change... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

But it's not the "natural" way to do this (and newbie can't find it). Move DNS and router settings in a tab in each network card will solve this problem in the easiest way. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

But in fact you're first and only requesting this feature. That means these options should be somehow hidden for non-experienced users to avoid confuse them (also because in previous versions <= code9 we had dns/routing setting under network devices dialogs) When I'll see usable screenshot or mockup I'll implement it. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=234542#c5 --- Comment #5 from Perret Florian <f-perret@tiscali.fr> 2007-11-22 04:15:46 MST --- It's not just about UI. The DNS/router settings should be different for each device (like for IP). In my case : - I use lan card at university with a specific DNS/router settings - I use wifi card at home with another DNS/router settings. - At university we also have a wifi with web page login which needs to not have IP/DNS/router configurate to work. So I have to change settings many times per day. We are 5 at my office in this case (and working with opensuse). A second step (a better one) could be to disconnect connections and device. For example, on win*** you can create many connections associate to a device and with specific settings. So you just have to choose which connection to use. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

No this bug, but all issue. I just mean that I understand what's going on, how to configure, but I don't have time to change current design of YaST lan UI. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
