[Bug 734749] New: KDE: Logout / Restart / Shutdown does not work at all in minimal installation
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=734749 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=734749#c0 Summary: KDE: Logout / Restart / Shutdown does not work at all in minimal installation Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: mat@mshopf.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=465782) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=465782) kiwi configuration for minimal KDE live image User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:8.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/8.0 I'm using a minimal installation here (will attach config.xml from kiwi). When I try to log out or restart or shutdown, the according dialog comes up, and after I hit the according button, the dialog closes, and the workspace looks as the reboot/xxx request had never happened. The only difference is that when I select reboot/xxx again, nothing at all will happen this time (even the dialog won't show up). Rebooting/halting with telinit 5/6 (or probably the according systemd alternatives) works fine. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install minimal KDE system 2. Select shutdown from KDE menu 3. Select shutdown in the popup dialog Actual Results: Dialog closes, nothing happens. Expected Results: Shutdown. I doubt, though, as those bugs describe that the system hangs afterwards. This is not the case here. xsession-errors doesn't show neither errors nor any other messages when trying to log out / reboot / shutdown. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Is the configured logout sound file wav (system settings->Notifications->KDE Plasma Workspace group) present on the system? THere is an upstream bug which I will lookup if needed that knotify4 hangs the logout workflow if it can't find the logout sound. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=734749 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=734749#c3 Matthias Hopf <mat@mshopf.de> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|NEEDINFO |RESOLVED InfoProvider|mat@mshopf.de | Resolution| |UPSTREAM --- Comment #3 from Matthias Hopf <mat@mshopf.de> 2011-12-07 00:39:51 UTC --- kdebase4-runtime is installed, thus the logout sound should be there there. There is no audio device, though, as I'm running it in a qemu-kvm session. But it seems you're right. I disabled the notification, and logout works now. Reenabling it lets knotify4 hang again. This also happens with ac97 sound, but it seems my installation is too minimal - kde can't play any .ogg files. In fact, it can't play any sound at all, even though aplay does work. After installing the required phonon and gstreamer packages (no backend was available), logout does work. It seems logout even works if no audio hardware is found when a phonon backend is available. Thanks Will, for now, this is good enough for me. Closing as upstream. Feel free to add the upstream bug number if you stumble over it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
