[Bug 444858] New: xfce session startup doesn' t use client geometry parameters anymore
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=444858 Summary: xfce session startup doesn't use client geometry parameters anymore Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Beta 5 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Xfce AssignedTo: bnc-team-xfce@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: koenig@linux.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- using xfce4 with my $HOME including xfce4 session settings from 11.0 worked fine for beta4, my default clients got started correctly (2*xterm, xosview, xnetload etc.) now after updating from beta4 to beta5 the xfce session layout is broken. those X clients still get started, but they are all positioned in the middle of the screen with default window sizes (xterm is 80x25 instead of 100x40 etc.). booting 11.0 again with this $HOME shows correct xfce session layout, so the setup didn't get garbled, it's just not correctly handled anymore in beta5... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

more than 4 weeks without any reply -- too bad :-( hey, xfce is one of the selectable choices to be installed in 11.1 (at the same menu priority as KDE3! ;-) last weekend I did some more tests because I tried to get 11.1-final working for me and my setup -- and I gave up! xfce 4.4.3 session handling seems to be broken and _does_not_work_correctly_. finally I installed the xfce 4.4.2 RPMs from suse 11.0, that's working ok on top of the 11.1-final. with 11.1-final I tried the following (again): - create a new, clean account (no xfce setup). - login with xfce, start one "Terminal" (xfce tool bar) and one "xterm -ls". start some other apps like xload/xosview/xclock/xeyes/... - resize and move both terminals - logout from xfce and save current session setup, login again. I get the following: - the "Terminal" starts up with correct size, xterm starts with 80x25 size and not with last size - _all_ windows/apps show up exactly in the middle of the screen, all on top of each. so the "Terminal" only retains the size but not the placement from it's original "geometry". if I change min. size the "intelligent placement" in window manager settings to minimal, then all session startup windows get placed "intelligently" and automatically without overlap, but not at their correct size (xterm! only Terminal size os ok) and not at their old locations (e.g. for xload/xosview). placement depends on the random startup speed and varies between multiple logins... this is not good :-( right now, IMHO xfce4 sessions are not really usable in 11.1-final. pitty.... some more points which I noticed: after downgrading from 4.4.3 to 4.4.2, the session saving for my test accound (keeping the 4.4.3-saved session) still did not work! even after new resizing/positioning and logout/save/login with 4.4.2, both size and position of xterm etc. still was wrong. so I removed the ~/.config/ tree with all xfce settings (in case some placement stuff might be incompatible), but this did not help. even new windows/apps all show up in the middle of the screen after logout/login. then I removed ~/.cache/ which keeps all the session infos. now after new login I (obviously) had to start new xterms etc. but only now the xfce 4.4.2 keeps and restores both size and position for xterm and all apps!! btw. I tried to only downgrade xfce4-session.rpm to 4.4.2 and keep everything else at 4.4.3, but with this mixture my login hung and did not complete (it only showed the "mice" splash screen). a quick look at the source diffs between xfce4-session 4.4.2 and 4.4.3 (from suse 11.0/11.1 src.rpm) did not show a very obvious change to me... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
