https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=223724 ------- Comment #3 from javierllorente1@gmail.com 2006-11-26 13:45 MST ------- Hello, Same problem here since openSUSE 10.2 (i586) Alpha5plus. 1. kmix doesn't start automatically. 2. If you run kmix, it says "mixer cannot be found". It was working okay on openSUSE 10.2 Alpha 4. The test music is played successfully (YAST->sound->other->volume->test). I'm currently running openSUSE 10.2 RC1 (fresh install) on my laptop. sound module: snd_ali5451 If I run alsamixer as a regular user, it says the same thing: alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device We (Tom Meyer and I) are both running openSUSE on laptops but my.xsession-errors is different. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=223724 ------- Comment #22 from smaug42@yahoo.com 2007-01-25 02:14 MST ------- Funny, because on every single 10.2 system I've installed I've had this exact problem... and it's "solved" by MANUALLY adding the user to the Audio group. This doesn't seem to be the right solution in 10.2 though... everywhere I've read up on this, everyone says I should not have to add the user to the Audio group. If I do a pure default install of 10.2 (using either the retail or the downloaded 10.2) - no additional options, accepting all defaults, sound works in YaST, but as user... nothing (under a normal user login) with ALSA reporting errors that no sound devices can be found. So.. "WorksForYou" but there are still people out here who it doesn't work for :-( I don't know what other information to provide (other than what is provided above) to point to possible cause for this. This isn't really resolved... at least not in my case. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=223724 ------- Comment #23 from lnussel@novell.com 2007-01-25 02:37 MST ------- Ok. So everyone who still has issues please open a separate bug report for your individual system then. This one is already too confusing as it mixes up issues from several people. I'm inclined to believe that individual sound drivers are responsible for those problems instead of a generic problem with the software architecture. Please attach the output of 'sudo /sbin/resmgr dump', 'lshal', 'hwinfo --sound' and 'ls -lR /sys/class/sound/' to your new bug reports. thanks. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
