[Bug 281939] New: ghostscript segfaults on sime files
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=281939 Summary: ghostscript segfaults on sime files Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Alpha 4 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Printing AssignedTo: jsmeix@novell.com ReportedBy: receive-spam@yandex.ru QAContact: jsmeix@novell.com The problem is that ps2ps crashes with segmentation fault on some PostScript files (generated by Adobe PS printer for Windows, but it does not matter). This problem does not occur with gs 8.15 built from source (not from source RPM but from "vanilla" source), so it seems to be caused by patches that are applied in the distribution. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=281939#c9 --- Comment #9 from Dr. Werner Fink <werner@novell.com> 2007-09-13 09:32:03 MST --- The bug report is for openSuSE 10.3 and yes it is known that ghostscript 8.15.X can segfault on some postscript and pdf sources. Nevertheless for ghostscript 8.60 exist other problems like not working drivers. You may try specified repositories. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=281939#c11 --- Comment #11 from Dr. Werner Fink <werner@novell.com> 2007-09-13 10:16:34 MST --- As long as not all problems are solved, like missing driver support and missing font support, it makes no sence to provide an update. It would cause more trouble then it would fix. Nevertheless you may rise a L3 call but even if I'm currently not able to fix all those problems. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=281939#c12 --- Comment #12 from Sitsofe Wheeler <sitsofe@yahoo.com> 2007-09-13 10:40:59 MST --- Werner: Hmm. The problem for me is that it seems to be a regression from the previous version of SUSE we migrated from on the server. Whereas before we would generally only see failed print jobs from people trying to print documents with Japanese characters in them we are now (for example) seeing failed print jobs from people sending Intranet web pages from their SUSE 10.1 machines (I wish I could include the postscript that Firefox is generating but unfortunately it is a very sensitive document). In fact, the ghostview packaged with 10.1 doesn't seem to have this issue. In the past two days it appears to have happened 15 times (although I have not checked whether these are different documents from different people)... If there were a trial "patch" for SLES10 that contained a fix for this I would still consider it a step forward (assuming the official updates would upgrade it correctly and not regress it). It is rare that one will see every last problem resolved unless you are going to wait a very long time so I'd be happier to see a common fault resolved and a fix for rarer issues delayed. From my perspective SLES supports all of the HP printers and Ricoh photocopiers we have because we can have been able to use the PPDs as they all the printers support postscript. What do you suggest? Is it more likely that the common fault could be safely isolated (and a fix for only that released) if I were to file a separate bug report (although the issue does sound very similar to this one as even the package version is the same)? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=281939#c13 --- Comment #13 from Dr. Werner Fink <werner@novell.com> 2007-09-13 10:54:46 MST --- Seems to that the update from 8.15.1 to 8.15.3 for bug #202092 and bug #209879 now cause trouble in an other direction. Analyzing the problem and generating the appropiate patch will require time. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=281939#c14 --- Comment #14 from Sitsofe Wheeler <sitsofe@yahoo.com> 2007-09-13 12:20:55 MST --- Werner: It looks like it's a 64 bit issue. After your previous comment I went back and checked the version of the SLES10SP1 and SUSE10.1 ghostscript-library RPMs and both were 8.15.3 (ghostscript-library-8.15.3-18.7 and ghostscript-library-8.15.3-18.2 in this case). The only difference I could think of was that the SUSE 10.1 machine which did not produce the segfault upon running gs -q -dBATCH -dPARANOIDSAFER -dNOPAUSE -sDEVICE=pswrite -dLanguageLevel=1 -sOutputFile=gsout.ps segfault.ps was using a 32 bit version of SUSE 10.1. We just so happen to have a few machines running the 64 bit version of SUSE 10.1 and that produces the same segfault as SLES10SP1. Should this be spun off into a separate bug report? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

No more segfault's if printing from within Firefox. It is nessasary to install this libgimpprint-4.2.7-52.1.x86_64.rpm also ? RPM is complaining that the installed version of libgimpprint (4.2.7-101) is newer then the version of the new one.
