I remember darkly a mainline discussion, that on some machines the code must get executed on the first CPU. IIRC this was related to hard hangs when closing the LID. Not sure whether the solution to force ACPI code execution to core zero got accepted or whether they found something else, but I expect this got fixed mainline some months ago.
