[Bug 654517] New: System hard locks up and partially freezes regularly.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=654517 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=654517#c0 Summary: System hard locks up and partially freezes regularly. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: djmills@netspace.net.au QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.2.12) Gecko/20101026 SUSE/3.6.12-1.1 Firefox/3.6.12 This is similar to Bug 615649, but that is Intel graphics specific and I have a Radeon Graphics card. Adding "nomodeset" reduces the frequency of lockups and partial freezes, but does not eliminate them. I get at most 1-2 hours of use before the computer freezes. There are 2 types of freezes: immediate hard lockups (power off is the only way to get a response) and incremental freezes. With the hard lockup, the screen doesn't change appearance, it simply fails to respond to anything, even CTRL-ALT-DEL. With the incremental freeze, it would affect a single application at first and gradually spread to all applications/windows. Eventually everything would be frozen. The gradual spread might take 5 mins. After persevering for 2 weeks I re-installed 11.2 and things have been stable since then. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I have reopened this bug because it is persistent. I have tried installing Live on two different USB stick, running it on four different computers with different MBs but always the problem reappears. Partial freezes as described above on random tasks. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Please open a seperate bugreport. I suggest to file it against the kernel component. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
