Happends shortly (1-5 minutes) after cold boot and login, indipendent of applications in use or not. When it happends, nothing works, neither mouse, keyboard nor switch to consol modus. Tried power off/on a booted several times. Thought at first this was the same network freeze issue on the same workstation as previous reported as Bug 406626 related to NetworkManager. However, now it is still possible to login remotely from antother PC with NX as used here, and from here everything looks to work ok. Dell P490 has worked ok for some time now.
