[Bug 817866] New: GRUB2 Boot Menu should be nearly full width of display so options can be read fully
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=817866 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=817866#c0 Summary: GRUB2 Boot Menu should be nearly full width of display so options can be read fully Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: Final Platform: All OS/Version: openSUSE 12.3 Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: Bootloader AssignedTo: jsrain@suse.com ReportedBy: tonysu@su-networking.com QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=537464) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=537464) GRUB2 modify script with related background image User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:20.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/20.0 the default GRUB2 Menu as configured in 12.3 configures a very narrow window. I have created a Wiki page with "before" and "after" screenshots of the default GRUB2 Menu and modified by my script. https://en.opensuse.org/User:Tsu2/12.3/Modified_GRUB_Menu Particularly a problem for newbies, when troubleshooting boot issues and when a very large number of kernel options are loaded, there is considerable guesswork instructing or finding the correct kernel version or recovery mode. I have created for the Community a script publicized in the Tech Help Forums that configures the menu list options to span 90% of the display width and slightly smaller font so that the entire menu option is visible, plus an appropriate background image so that the logo is out of the way of the wider entries. I recommend this new boot menu should be pushed as soon as possible and the wider width used in future openSUSE Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. All normal 12.3 installs Actual Results: Cannot see, differentiate different GRUB2 menu options Expected Results: Should be able to see the entire menu option so can see what kernel and if recovery mode If implemented after install, my script can be used to modify an existing GRUB2 menu. If implemented as part of the original install, the few settings in my script should <replace> the values in the original config.
