"reportlab" is not a required dependency. "reportlab" is only an optional dependency that provides support for an optional feature in HPLIP. "reportlab" is not required to run the "hp device manager" This issue is probably another duplicate of https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/1064889 Run "hp-toolbox" (that is the "hp device manager") directly on the command line to verify if you also get the Python traceback that is shown in https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/1064889 If you also get those Python traceback, it is fixed in a newer HPLIP version so that a HPLIP version upgrade should help. I provide the newest HPLIP as RPM packages "hplip", "hplip-hpijs", and "hplip-sane" for various openSUSE and Suse Linux Enterprise versions in the "Printing" development project in the openSUSE build service for 32-bit i586 and 64-bit x86_64 architecture. E.g. for openSUSE 12.2 x86_64 from this direct URL http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Printing/openSUSE_12.2/x86_64/ Please read https://build.opensuse.org/project/show?project=Printing For general information see http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:How_to_set-up_a_HP_printer -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

it is the contrary of my experiment. when i saw that hp device manager does not launch via hplip systray then i launch it in a console then hp tools does not launch then i learn reading the messages that hp tools requires reportlab then i installed reportlab then this time i was able to launch hp tools i will try the new hplip -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=803603 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=803603#c3 --- Comment #3 from Johannes Meixner <jsmeix@suse.com> 2013-02-14 11:19:51 CET --- Regarding "hp tools requires reportlab": When I run "hp-toolbox" I get: --------------------------------------------------------------------------- warning: Reportlab not installed. Fax coverpages disabled. warning: Please install version 2.0+ of Reportlab for coverpage support. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- "hp-toolbox" works o.k. for me regardless of "reportlab" so that - "reportlab" is not a required dependency, - "reportlab" is only an optional dependency that provides support for the optional feature "fax coverpages" which is only of optional interest for users who use HPLIP for faxing, - "reportlab" is not required to run the "hp device manager". -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
