[Bug 555890] New: Dual Head setup using krandrtray + KDE4: monitor arrangement (left of / right of) lost after logoff
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=555890 Summary: Dual Head setup using krandrtray + KDE4: monitor arrangement (left of / right of) lost after logoff Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: madworm_de.novell@spitzenpfeil.org QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- --- Comment #0 from robert spitzenpfeil <madworm_de.novell@spitzenpfeil.org> 2009-11-16 19:09:48 UTC --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.4) Gecko/20091016 SUSE/3.5.4-1.1.2 Firefox/3.5.4 I'm glad that configuring a dual head system is now possible in KDE4 with krandrtray. Unfortunately the settings are lost after logoff and redoing it every time has a certain suckiness. I can only make the settings permanent by using sax2, but I've been told elsewhere https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=555882 that this option will go away soon. Apparently it also works on gnome. At least the bug still appears on this system [1], upgraded from a running openSUSE 11.2 system using zypper dup. On another similar system [2] with the same dual-head screen setup everything work perfectly "out-of-the-box". It *is* possible to setup a dual-head configuration using KRandRTray, but only on the second attempt (every first time after logging in, when the settings are 'applied', nothing happens; the second time it does work). However, these settings do not persist after logging of, or switching users, even when they are made by the root user. After logging off or rebooting the system defaults back to a "Clone of" mode. With Sax2 no longer available for a more permanent solution this has become a major annoyance, especially on a system shared by multiple users. I would argue that this bug deserves more "Importance" than P5, but I will leave this to the KDE maintainers. It is almost impossible to configure monitors as root, since after you did the choice and click "apply", the monitors doesn't display correctly anymore. It is almost impossible to configure monitors as root, since after you did the choice and click "apply", the monitors doesn't display correctly anymore.
Which means that such a setup doesn't work with your graphics card.
I tried to click "accept configuration", and then logged out, logged in again as root, the configuration isn't saved, both monitors display the same.
Sure we don't want to save a non-working setup.
Which xorg.conf file should be changed? /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-monitor.conf ? Can you attach an example please?
NVIDIA's Twinview configuration isn't that simple.
