Can you please get the output of "rpm -qa --last |head -n 50", then try to boot the broken system with linuxrc=trace and get /var/log/messages and /var/log/boot.msg (attach them to the bug). You will see from the history, for example, that the problem wasn't casued by upgrading the kernel nor from upgrading grub. Only when udev was upgraded did the problem arise In terms of your request I would be happy to do as you ask except I'm not sure I understand how I would be able to deliver what you are asking me to do When the install is broken it loses the hard drive, just after "fast boot using udev" (I think that's the phrase) appears on the console After that event I am unable to do anything except plug in the install disk (the DVD ISO on a USB drive) to repair and revert -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Also udev was updated, but nothing was added or done to it to change its behavior. Anyway try to boot the system with linuxrc=trace and see what happens, you'll be able to see more like that and maybe set splash=none. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I hope you do not mind me mentioning that writing "Also give me the info which I requested, otherwise I can't help. You saying something and something else is going on. It's not the first time." is unnecessarily aggressive? Not least "It's not the first time" as I don't recall you and I ever having communicated before. I spent a fair amount of time trying to isolate the problem before submitting the bug. Your invective is not encouraging. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I need that info, which I requested to see whats going on, I don't need to check a forum, when there is an open bug for the issue. Anyway, not trying to be aggressive, but I really can't help without the logs and don't believe is udev, because I'm maintaining it and I haven't really done anything to it, to change is behavior, but then again everything is possible. So please try as much as possible to get what I need (comment 1). I need the "rpm -qa|head -n 50 or 100" on the broken system or the system with the broken udev. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

How could it work when almost everything is different, include where udevd binary is. This is INVALID. You must stay with udev 182 or move fully to Factory (or 12.3 beta1) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

So install openSUSE 12.2 (KDE I suppose), after is installed, run as root: zypper ref zypper up reboot When the system is fully update-to-data, add the KDE repo as root: zypper ar http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Distro:/Factory/openSUSE_12.2... zypper ref zypper up (or if it doesnt upgrade KDE then zypper dup) reboot and you should only have the newer KDE upgraded and the rest of the system should in theory be the same. I've checked the KDE repo and is nothing there (like udev or systemd) that would mess the system up (maybe KDE wont work, it could happen), but besides that the system should run OK. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
