[Bug 209354] New: YOU is telling "OK" on error
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=209354 Summary: YOU is telling "OK" on error Product: SUSE Linux 10.1 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: SuSE Linux 10.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: emoenke@gwdg.de QAContact: jsrain@novell.com SUSE-10.1, i386, YOU: Error updating kernel-kdump (the hell knows why ever this package), choosing "ignore", the progress screen shows "OK". This is bad. Either by result, or by will, which would be more worse. In general, it seems that SUSE is migrating towards the so-opinioned "users", meaning the main process has migrated from the goal "technical correct"" to the new goal "user is saturated". 100% wrong, false, will get damned very hard once made public. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=209354 judas_iscariote@shorewall.net changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |judas_iscariote@shorewall.net ------- Comment #1 from judas_iscariote@shorewall.net 2006-09-30 18:20 MST ------- this is just another sign that package manager stuff doesn't work properly and has horrible usability problems, the sad thing is nobody at novell wants to recognize that this stuff **does not work**, and to the date, there is no real public recognition of the mess. We see this kind of issues everyday on IRC, users are heavily confused, by yast or rug messages like " Resolvable id 638433 does not exist." (what means that for the user eh ? ) some are downgrading to 10.0 or going for Ubuntu. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=209354 ------- Comment #2 from emoenke@gwdg.de 2006-09-30 18:33 MST ------- Something is going wrong, I agree. But the goal has to be to analyse and specify it, not to run away (wnich would have reasons enough, I see). This is as severe as noone could foresee before - SUSE has "alienated" themself from there "traditional" usership. Non-understandable error messages are trademark of someone else, so SUSE is not allowed to submit them. ;-)) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Is this the current update stack version? Ad #1: Cristian, I've said publically several times that the original version as delivered with 10.1 had problems - but I also hope we fixed them now. Please send me a private message (to aj@novell.com) (this is off-topic in this bugreport and I don't want us to hijack it) where there are still such problems as you say. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

The lines before were just from the package which got updated before. The lines after were the regular lines from the following packages. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
