The more devices that wifi in the room, the worse it gets. However, i noticed, that it is not bad all the time, but sometimes the controller gets mad, and sets speed to 1(one)mb With the latest kernel i get the message in the titel in /var/log/messages every time the performance dips to 1mb (this is of course driving me crazy, and i plug a lan cable - if i am "alone in the room there is no problem) (i have of course tried to turn off everything, and the worst enemy of my wifi card seems to be the PC of my wife - which also has an Intel wifi. - Funny enough if she is booted under windows, then she does not have a poblem. The more devices that wifi in the room, the worse it gets. However, i noticed, that it is not bad all the time, but sometimes the controller gets mad, and sets speed to 1(one)mb With the latest kernel i get the message in the titel in /var/log/messages every time the performance dips to 1mb Of course there are a lot reasons driver has to dynamically adjust its bit rate. Theoretically radio needs to measure how the media is. Bad traffic, contention and so forth...
(this is of course driving me crazy, and i plug a lan cable - if i am "alone in the room there is no problem) (i have of course tried to turn off everything, and the worst enemy of my wifi card seems to be the PC of my wife - which also has an Intel wifi. - Funny enough if she is booted under windows, then she does not have a poblem. If we are both linux (she is Opensuse 12.2)) we both have problems. Hmm..it is worth thinking. And it is obviously Linux has worse performance. But compare Linux with Windows is unfair. :)

Since i have a lousy ADSL performance, i am not used to filetransfers youtube etc (well i have free.fr in france, and they are not at good terms with google, so youtube is hosed anyway :-) So i normally see this error a lot when just browsing or reading mails, but it is for sure most present, in the evening, when all my neighbors are firing up their PCs as well. I tested evening, which is normally very difficult for my wifi - it used to moan all the time. Now /var/log/messages is silent about the wifi card and the performance is not stellar but it is very stable (and i think the performance is naturally limited considering the noisy environment. Looks like this one is fixed - at least it has made big difference to the better for me. Really good to hear of the result you nave. The WLAN driver is always developing in every moment. So there is no solid guarantee which version is working perfectly stable. I am not quite sure how Open SUSE apply the compat-driver (compat-wireless) to the distro.
